Do you hear those spring migrants calling in your yard? They’re saying it’s time once again to join our Birdathon! Now in our 34th year, this annual fundraiser supports our education programs including our new high school Oak Savanna Community Science Project in the North Coyote Valley Conservation Area and our Wetlands Discovery Program, which has been introducing gradeschoolers to our Baylands for the past 33 years.

In addition to our traditional teams, we’re encouraging new teams. Do you have fellow birders at your workplace? Gather them together and form a team! Are you part of a homeschool Park Day group? How about a 4-hour Big Sit at your favorite park? What about leading a group of Seniors new to birding? One of our themes this year is accessible birding, helping more people of all abilities to get out and appreciate nature. Contact our Education Manager Carolyn Knight at scvasbirdathon@gmail.com for information on how to create a team of your own.

Every Birdathon team has a story to tell. You can read the adventures of each team in our Birdathon Stories, going back to 2020.

This year’s kickoff meeting will happen during the March 16 Speaker Series presentation by Freya McGregor from Birdability.

The Birdathon window this year is Saturday March 26 through Sunday May 8.

We will hold a prize ceremony on Wednesday June 1 where we’ll announce the top fundraising teams and individuals, play some quizzes and games, share some stories and celebrate together.
