Annual Appeal 2023

You can help secure our environment’s future.

When you donate to SCVAS, it strengthens our education program and informs our community, particularly school children, about how incredible yet fragile our world is. Your donation also improves our ability to protect our animals and the habitat they need through effective advocacy and outreach.

Without your support these education programs or conservation work wouldn’t exist and things would be very different outside our doors. Think for a moment about what our lives would be like without the landscapes we have fought so hard to protect. It’s clear from your past support that you share our love of birds and other wildlife, and that you care about the work we do.

Here are just a few examples of the work you made possible with your support this year:

Yellow-billed Magpie: Ed Reed

  • We fought successfully for the permanent closure of the Lehigh Cement Plant which was a major environmental threat.

  • We ensured that Palo Alto will protect birds and other wildlife by prohibiting the release of feral cats in the city.

  • We advocated successfully to get Dark Sky ordinances moving forward in Mountain View, Los Altos, and Palo Alto for the protection of migrating bird, bats, and insects. Sunnyvale is likely to follow suit.

  • We instructed more than 1700 students (ages 5 to 22) in Santa Clara County with local birds to teach about adaptations, conservation, ecology, and community science.

  • We welcomed more people into birding with accessible, Mandarin-language, Spanish-language, women's, and LGBTQ+ field trips.

  • We built a strong science community with regular BioBlitzes and bird surveys and taught our participants how to contribute to our understanding of the environment.

These accomplishments were only possible because of your past generous support. Together we can do more to preserve the environment for our county’s future. There are so many areas in need of protection, so many people that could benefit from our education programs! As we identify more and better ways to help our community understand the threats to our wildlife and ecosystems, we hope we can count on you to support us again this year. Please make your generous tax-deductible donation to SCVAS today. Your donation will help us succeed.
