The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society in Cupertino proudly announces that member Vayun Tiwari of Sunnyvale recently was named the Youth Winner of the National Audubon Society's 2020 Photography Awards, North America's premier bird photo contest. The Audubon Photography Awards celebrate birds and their beauty, and tell the stories of birds and their lives. The 2020 contest judges included nationally-known photography experts along with bird experts. Winning photos will be featured in future issues of Audubon magazine and Nature’s Best Photography magazine. As Youth Winner, Vayun received a six-day session at the Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine during the 2021 season.
Vayun Tiwari began bird-watching with his parents as a very young child, but became an avid birder at 7 years old during a family trip to the Everglades when he first tried bird photography. Vayun has participated in Audubon's Christmas and Summer Bird Counts for many years, and competed with "The Fledglings" team in the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society's annual "Birdathon" fundraiser. Now 16 years old and a junior at the Harker School, Vayun has used his bird photography hobby to raise money for the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society and the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory. He has presented several talks about birds and bird photography, and on October 7th, will give a presentation about birds in southern Ecuador to the Bay Area Bird Photographers group, see https://bit.ly/2GSitgZ
