The fall migration of Warblers is an exciting event for birders. It can also daunting because many of these tiny tree-top insectivores lack the distinctive breeding plumage that makes them so memorable. How do we sort through the many similar features and identify the individuals we find? Why are there so many species on our checklist which (according to the range maps) shouldn’t be here at all? In this three-part presentation, instructor Matthew Dodder will guide you through the basic (and not-so-basic) challenges of our “confusing Fall Warblers”. We will discuss places to go to find Warblers, what marks and behaviors to watch for, and how to enjoy some of the most confusing and enigmatic migrants of the fall season. 

Registrants will gain access to a secure chat room where they can ask questions or share images of warblers they have found. Classes are recorded for participants to rewatch. Several notable warbler field guides will be randomly awarded to members of the class during the weekly sessions.

Classes take place over Zoom at 7PM Pacific Time.

Session 1: 9/6, Green, Yellow, and Gray

Session 2: 9/13, East and West

Session 3: 9/20, Rare and Regular

Note: There is no dedicated field trip planned for this class, but our SCVAS field trip schedule includes locations where you can search for the Warblers we discuss in class.

Admission is $75 plus processing fees for SCVAS members, and $100 plus processing fees for non-members. This covers all three sessions. Participants will be sent access link in their tickets after registering.
