Beginner and Family Friendly Palo Alto Baylands to Byxbee

Killdeer by Chiiming Kao

This trip will bird Harriet Mundy Marsh and the Marsh Trail at Palo Alto Baylands. Then we will walk over to Byxbee Park to bird Harbor Marsh, the Mayfield Slough at Byxbee, top of the hill and back down to the native plant garden by the Palo Alto Water Control Plant and back to PAB. Likely birds we may spot include: Swallows, Black-necked Stilts and Avocets, Mallard and Canada Geese families, Northern Harriers, American Kestrels, American White Pelicans, herons and egrets, Song and Savannah Sparrows, possibly Hooded/Bullock's Oriole and spring/summer warblers and/or vireos. Welcome to birders at all levels.

Trip Note: bring binoculars

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, no elevation gain, some shade at the beginning. Restrooms and benches along the way.

Meet: Parking Lot for Lucy Evans Nature Center

Directions: "From US-101 in Palo Alto take Embarcadero Rd east towards the bay. Pass the airport and turn left at the T-intersection. Continue for 0.5 miles passing the duck pond. Just over the bridge, the interpretive center (2775 Embarcadero Rd) will be on your left and the paved parking area will be on your right. Latitude/Longitude: 37.459384, -122.106171
