Printed copies available now at our Nature Shop

We are excited to announce an all new Santa Clara County Checklist of birds. This twelve-page booklet covers all 414 species that have been observed in the county, along with breeding status, rarity codes and frequency data. It uses the latest taxonomy and species names and is derived from current eBird data along with our own records of historical species. The checklist includes a map showing the birding regions in our county, along with a list of some suggested birding hotspots (for more ideas on where to go birding, check out our extensive Self-Guided Field Trips).

How to get the new checklist:

  • Visit our Nature Shop at McClellan Ranch: we have printed copies available ($2 suggested donation).

  • If you have a printer that can print double-sided copies, download the free double-sided pdf below and print it, using the “short edge binding” option for double-sided pages. Then simply fold in half and you have your own copy.

  • If you can’t print double sided, below is a pdf with the pages in numerical order which you can use on a computer, tablet or mobile phone, or you could print it out, but we recommend saving paper if you can!

  • If you’d like to see the latest county sightings of all known county species, refer to our County Birds page, updated monthly.
