At the PALY Wildlife Observation Club, we are trying to get people involved in the beauty of nature around us and to make sure members learn at a young age how to ethically observe wildlife, correctly identify birds, and take photos. This Birdathon team explored Shoreline Lake to find 38 species, including this great example of a Blue-winged Teal and one of the Northern Mockingbirds that are singing their hearts out at this time of year.

We were looking to see the Brant, but it must’ve left just before our visit as I saw it alone the day before. We traveled around the lake and surrounding area, and were able to spot a Blue-Winged Teal. It was a first for us in the year, and a fun way to kick off the Birdathon!
