Women Walk the Wilds

Lawrence’s Goldfinches by Teresa Cheng

This field trip for women* by women will visit Joseph D. Grant County Park. This wonderful spot offers great hiking and a wide variety of birds. We'll spend some time in the ranch house rose garden hoping for Lawrence Goldfinches, and then hike some trails based on recent bird sightings. (*women/femme/nonbinary)

Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles; paved, gravel, dirt, and grass route; muddy or possibly muddy after rain; rocky trails; uneven or rutted trails; some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain); little to no shade; poison oak alongside trail (wear long pants)

Meet: Grant Ranch House Parking Lot (near Stockman's bathroom)

Directions: From US-101, take the E Capitol Expressway exit (east). After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Quimby Rd. Continue east for approx. 6.8 miles. (Note: Quimby Rd. becomes a steep and winding road after a few miles. At one point it also narrows to 1 lane.) Turn right onto Hwy 130 (Mt. Hamilton Rd.). The main Joseph D. Grant Park entrance will be on the right side within less than 0.5 mile. Turn in there, pay your fee, and continue on the roadway to the Grant Ranch House parking lot at GPS coordinates 37.336583654123814, -121.71518265431816

Facilities: ADA accessible bathrooms, spotty cell phone service

Parking Type and Fees: paved parking; $6 day use fee or Santa Clara County Park pass.
