South County Regional Wastewater Authority

Explore levees along numerous settling ponds with varying amounts of water and vegetation. Ducks, shorebirds, wintering passerines and raptors.

Trip Difficulty: Shorts walks from multiple car stops. Less than a mile of walking. Flat. Generally good dirt roads with occasional muddy spots and dips.

Other Trip Notes: Scopes helpful. Some ponds are large and shorebirds especially may be distant.

Meet: Administration building at 1500 Southside Dr. Gilroy, Gilroy, CA 95020

Directions: From US-101 in southern Gilroy, exit Monterey Rd (exit 355). Travel north on Monterey Rd, then make the first right onto E Luchessa Ave. E Luchessa Ave passes under the freeway then angles right and becomes Rossi Ln, then dead-ends at Southside Dr. Turn left onto Southside Dr and follow it ½ mile to the treatment plant entrance on your right. Turn right into the treatment plant facility, continue straight until the road dead ends at the administration bldg and park in the lot. Address: South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA), 1500 Southside Dr. Gilroy, CA 95020.
