Rancho Cañada del Oro

Located in south Santa Clara County, Rancho Cañada del Oro offers oak savanna, oak woodland, and riparian habitat. We'll search for birds such as Western Wood-Pewee, Bullock's Orioles and Black-headed Grosbeaks. During the first half of this trip, we’ll be traveling along a paved 0.5 mile long loop trail. This portion is accessible; wheelchairs, walkers and other assistive devices are welcome and we’ll move at a slow pace. After that, for those who want to continue, we’ll explore the overflow parking lot and part of the flat dirt Longwall Canyon Trail.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles: 1/2 mile paved trail; 2 miles dirt road with no elevation gain but creek crossing

Meet: Parking Lot near bathroom

Directions: From US-101, exit Bailey Ave. Continue west on Bailey Ave for 3 miles. Turn left onto McKean Rd, continue for 2.5 miles, then turn right onto Casa Loma Rd. The preserve is located at the end of Casa Loma Rd. There is an overflow lot 1/4 mile up the road - please do not park in the gravel equestrian lot. Latitude/Longitude: 37.147363, -121.774899

Parking Type and Fees: No fees. If walking is not a difficulty for you, please use the overflow parking lot.
