Lunchtime Bird Walk at Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant

Take a lunchtime stroll along weedy-edged, tule-lined canals, evaporation ponds, and salt ponds to look for egrets, herons, grebes, ducks, and terns. This trip is designed for beginners but all are welcome to attend.

Notes: Bring your own binoculars, loaners not available

Difficulty: 1 mile, flat dirt trail

Meet: Carl Rd parking lot, under the tree, near the porta-potty

Directions: From CA-237 in Sunnyvale, exit Lawrence Expy/Caribbean Dr. Continue onto Caribbean Dr. In about 1.2 miles, turn right at Borregas then left on Carl Rd following the signs to the bay trail access parking lot. These parking spots are signed “NO construction PARKING.” Latitude/Longitude: 37.419133, -122.018296.  

Direction Notes: If the Carl Rd parking lot is full or closed, there is additional parking along Caribbean Dr just west of Borregas Ave. Once parked, you can reach the field trip meeting point by using the well-signed connector trail on Caribbean Dr (the connector trail is 0.2 miles west of Borregas at Latitude/Longitude: 37.417595, -122.018838. Walk 0.1 miles to the meeting spot.

Facilities: porta-potty (usually unpleasant)

Parking: paved parking, ADA compliant spots available in both parking locations, no fees
