HUNTING HOLLOW - HENRY COE

Henry Coe is a massive state park protecting 80,000 acres of the Diablo Range. We'll explore a less-traveled part of Coe called Hunting Hollow, located east of Coyote Lake off Gilroy Hot Springs Road. The 3.5 mile route is relatively flat, but we may have some low water crossings depending on recent weather.
Trip Difficulty: 3.5 miles. Wide, relatively flat trail is shared with bicycles and horses. There are multiple creek crossings that are usually shallow, and some dry by May, but this is weather dependent.
Other Trip Notes: There is no cell phone coverage over most of the route. Mornings can be quite chilly in this area, and afternoons quite hot - bring water! Consider waterproof shoes and perhaps trekking pools for crossing the low creeks. There is one short moderately steep hill.

Meet: Hunting Hollow Entrance dirt parking lot. Meet at the kiosk.
Directions: From US-101 in Gilroy, exit Masten Ave. Travel east for approximately 1 mile towards the foothills. Turn right onto Center Ave, travel 0.4 miles, then turn left onto Rucker Ave. In 0.8 miles, turn right onto New Ave. Travel 1.6 miles then turn left onto Roop Rd. In 1.9 miles, turn left at the T-intersection and continue on Roop Rd for 1.3 miles. You’ll pass Coyote Lake County Park main entrance on your left. From here the road becomes Gilroy Hot Springs, and you’ll continue for 3.3 miles. Note that the road becomes narrow in places, requiring caution. Facilities: Three porta-potties, no water, no cell service. Picnic tables near trailhead and a few along the trail
Parking Type and Fees: Dirt/gravel lot. This is a state park, so there is a self-service parking fee.
