COYOTE VALLEY OPEN SPACE PRESERVE

Located between San Jose and Morgan Hill, this park of rolling hills, oak savanna, serpentine rock outcroppings, and grasslands is a great place to spot raptors. We’ll start by birding the parking lot and small meadow before hiking a short portion of the Arrowhead Loop Trail. Raptors such as American Kestrels, Northern Harriers, and Red-tailed Hawks are expected. Ferruginous Hawks and Golden Eagles are possible. We’ll also be on the lookout for Yellow-billed Magpies, Loggerhead Shrikes and Say’s Phoebes.

Directions: From US-101 in Morgan Hill, exit Bailey Ave. Travel west for about 0.7 miles then turn left onto Santa Teresa Blvd. Continue for about 2 miles then turn right onto Palm Ave. The preserve is at the end of the road. Latitude/Longitude: 37.171062, -121.727388

Facilities: ADA compliant pit toilet, no water
