Beginner Birding at New Chicago Marsh

New Chicago Marsh, located in north San Jose, and the native gardens around it are a productive spot for shorebirds, ducks, sparrows, and more. The huge numbers of birds, some at reasonably close distance, provide good opportunities to practice our identification skills as well as enjoy the end of fall migration.

Trip Difficulty: 1.5 miles; paved and dirt trails, some elevation gain (less than 300 ft elevation gain), little to no shade

Meet: Don Edwards Environmental Education Center main parking lot

Directions: From CA-237 exit north onto Zanker Rd. Continue on Zanker Rd for about 2.5 miles (Zanker Rd becomes Los Esteros Rd). Make a sharp right turn onto Grand Blvd and continue into the park. Latitude/Longitude: 37.439242, -121.959694
