Heaven on Earth: Soaring with Awe-inspiring Birds of Costa Rica
by Hita Bambhania-Modha

In July 2023, I spontaneously decided to visit Costa Rica, the place that was on my bucket list for a long time. I did not expect much as I was going for the first time, and that too during the rainy season! To my surprise and delight, however, the trip turned out to be incredibly joyful and deeply fulfilling. Costa Rica’s varied landscape, abundant diverse life, mesmerizing sights, sounds, and overall atmosphere made me feel more alive than ever before and literally made Costa Rica feel like heaven on earth.

I saw and captured more species of birds than I ever imagined. In my presentation, I will share the photos I took of beautiful birds in Costa Rica’s rainforests, wetlands, as well as urban habitats; my unique observations, life transforming experience, and the factors that made my trip successful.

Bio: As an artist and a nature lover, I enjoy, capture, share, and strive to protect the beauty of the natural world. In 2012, I decided to pursue bird photography seriously as an artistic expression. I am naturally drawn to birds because I find birds incredibly beautiful and bird photography to be the most challenging type of photography.

Previously I was a public school teacher and homeschooled my two kids. Along with photography, I strive to create an urban oasis in my neighborhood by planting native plants, installing nest boxes, and fighting to keep our public parks pesticide free.
